The Root Chakra is known as a foundational Chakra and is located at the base of your spine. Once the Root Chakra is balanced, you will feel secure, calm and happy and if it is out of balance, a person might feel anxious, angry, depressed, nervous or fearful.
The color associated with this chakra is red. Start with some stretching and then sit a chair or anywhere comfortable with your eyes closed. Touch the tip of your index finger with the tip of your thumb, start breathing slowly and deeply and concentrate on Root Chakra, at the spot between the genitals and anus.
The Sacral Chakra is located right below the navel and it is the chakra of graciousness, pleasure, and selflessness. Moving up with the Sacral meditation helps in enhancing the happy feelings and sexuality. It helps you in creating a better connection with people around you, but if it is unbalanced and under-active, you will tend to be unemotional and insensitive and become very conservative.
To activate the Sacral Chakra, sit on your knees with back straight and keep your hands in your lap with palms facing upwards. Continue doing this until you are completely relaxed.
This is the third chakra, which is known by the name of the power chakra, and helps in transforming the energy into physical form, best for good digestion and hormonal balance. When it is balanced this chakra will make you feel empowered and bring all your intentions to fulfillment. This chakra is located in your stomach or the upper abdomen and gives you great confidence and control.
To activate the Solar Plexus chakra, sit on your knees, with back straight and keep your hands in front of your stomach, slightly below the solar plexus. Now, join the tips of the fingers of your both hands, all pointing away from you, cross your thumbs and straighten the fingers. It is located at the center of the chest and with proper meditation it opens up our ability to love others and as well as ourselves.
This chakra enhances the qualities of love, compassion and empathy and when it is in the balance state, the chakra is very soothing, warm, and nourishing. In the petals is also the deity of the Ajna Chakra called Hakini. She has six faces like the moon. In her six hands she holds a book, a skull, a small book, a rosary and other two hands show the gesture of granting boons and dispelling fear. She is described as Shuddha-Chitta or pure minded.
In some traditions, worship is offered only to the letters present on the petals of the chakra Ham and Ksham and the main deity associated with the chakra to awaken the Ajna Chakra.
Also, different traditions may worship different deities. In any case, mantras and hand mudras for worship has to be learned from a proper master who has been initiated through a lineage and is beyond the scope of this article. Another easy way to awaken the Ajna chakra is to breathe through the chakra. Sit in any meditative pose with spine erect. Breathe normally. Take you attention to the location of the chakra In the spine at the level of the centre of chest.
Take a slow and deep breath and imagine that you are breathing in through the Ajna chakra and then breathing out slowly through it. Continue this process for 5 to 10 minutes.
When we breathe through our nostrils, we feel the air coming in and going out. Same way, visualise and imagine that air is coming in through the chakra and going out through the chakra. This is only a visualisation. This process, helps to remove lot of blocks and to awaken the Ajna chakra. Yet another way to awaken Ajna chakra is to concentrate on the location of the chakra and chant the seed syllable mantra of Ajna chakra, which is — Om.
Sit in any comfortable meditative posture with spine erect. Chant mentally the Bija mantra Om very slowly and with full awareness.
Continue the chanting and concentration on the chakra as long as you are comfortable. One may start from 5 minutes and go up to 1 hour of this practice.
